Our repertoire
We offer a number of programmes to suit different groups or occasions. In addition to the standard programmes listed below we will be happy to tailor our performance to your specific requirements - just contact our Secretary, who will be glad to help.
1. A concert of songs and readings
This is a performance lasting about 1-1½ hours with an interval.
A concert of this type could have a theme, such as 'Music and Verse for a Summer Evening'.
2. Outdoor performances in 17th Century costume
The songs involved here would be mainly those appropriate to the costume - 17th Century or earlier, and sung in groups of about 10 pieces, with breaks between.
This is not intended as a concert performance, but just music to which passers-by might stop to listen.
3. Particular types of songs
Short, 30-minute recitals of, for example:
Madrigals - these 16th and 17th Century intricate love songs were extremely popular at the time.
Part-songs - 17th , 18th and 19th Century examples, which provide a contrasting style, sometimes humorous and drawing on a wide range of poetry.
4. Illustrated talks
These last about 1 hour and consist of a broad outline of a musical topic, given by one or more members of the choir, punctuated with musical examples, which are performed by the choir as a whole. The purpose is educational - the target audience being adults with a general interest in the topic, such as U3A groups.
Topics on offer include:
The story of English Vocal Music
Fa-la-la - Fun with Madrigals
